Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine
UK architects, planners and other construction industry professionals campaigning for a just peace in Israel/Palestine.
On 30 June an Israeli court hears the final appeal of the Sumarin family against their eviction from their Silwan home where they have lived for decades.
The eviction is being driven by Himanuta, a subsidiary of the JNF-KKL, and is another example of Israeli attempts to ethnically cleanse East Jerusalem.
In July the Israeli government plans to illegally annex vast swathes of the occupied West Bank.
We urgently need to step up our stand against Palestinian dispossession:
· Stop the JNF UK: Write to your MP to prevent the expulsion of the Sumarin family & question the charitable status of JNF UK: ask them to contact the FCO and sign EDM 529. See Eliza Egret's article in The Canary.

On June 30th, 2020, the Israeli courts are scheduled to hear the final appeal of a case in which the JNF, through its subsidiary organization, Himanuta, will seek to evict the Palestinian Sumarin family from their home in Silwan, East Jerusalem.
The details of this case are complicated, but the essence is simple: The JNF--an organization known in many parts of the world for its efforts to plant trees in Israel, and which seeks support from donors around the world who want to give voice to Jewish values-- is seeking to advance the radical right-wing agenda of parts of the Israeli government and extremist settler organizations such as ELAD and to evict a Palestinian family from their home in Silwan, in East Jerusalem. This is wrong, it is unfair, it is directly opposed to human values of decency, compassion, fairness and justice, and we ask your help to stop this.
Personalized letters are known to be more effective than form letters. If you have the time, please consider editing our suggested text. Be polite but very clear. If you or your family has had a past connection with the KKL-JNF, that makes your letter more compelling.

ב30 ביוני 2020, יתקיים דיון בבית המשפט המחוזי בירושלים, בתביעתה של קק"ל, דרך חברת הבת שלה, הימנותא, לפנות את משפחת סומרין הפלסטינית מביתה שבסילוואן, מזרח ירושלים.

Don't uproot the Sumarin family
To the JNF and all its Affiliates,
In these times of crisis, the importance of a home is clear. I call on the KKL-JNF to refrain from uprooting the Sumarin family, a Palestinian family of 18, from their East Jerusalem home. The eviction efforts are based on a draconian application of Israel’s “Absentee Property Law,” although family members always lived there. Israel later committed not to use the law in this way but the injustice to the Sumarin family was not corrected. Evicting this family, especially in these times, is an act of abject cruelty. I call on the KKL-JNF to immediately renounce all claims to the property, to cease legal proceedings against the family, and to let the family live in peace and safety in their own home. Former KKL-JNF affiliates who have separated themselves from the KKL in Israel share responsibility. You were part of the organization when the KKL-JNF created the problem. You must solve it.
